Happy Fall!! Sorry this is long- there are several important items this week. Please pay special attention to #4 and let me know if you are able to help. :)
1. SNACK/ LEADER for this week: Lesley: Don't forget- healthy snack to serve 15 girls, be ready to explain what makes it healthy, no drinks necessary.
2. PLEASE REGISTER YOUR GIRL IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO!
3. FUNDRAISER: Remember, fundraiser packets are due 10/05 (one week from Wednesday). I need every girl to complete the address cards- this is quick and easy, so no excuses. :) Please try to sell items/ magazine subscriptions if you can. :)
4. NOTEBOOKS: Please make sure to check and sign your girl's Troop Notebook each week and help her remember to bring it to school on Wednesdays. There hasn't been anything important communicated in there yet, but there will be as we get busier!
5. UNIFORMS: The girls and I discussed uniforms this week. It is expected that each girl have the most basic uniform pieces. For Daisies, that is a blue smock. For Brownies, it will be a brown vest or sash. Most of the patches on the front of these uniform pieces are bought, including the Flag, the Council Identification Set, and Troop Numerals. HOW A DAISY SMOCK SHOULD LOOK. HOW A BROWNIE VEST SHOULD LOOK. PLEASE LET ME KNOW if you have a) an insignia tab (yellow for Daisies/ brown for Brownies), b) World Trefoil Pin (same for all), or c) Membership Pin (daisy and brownie- specific). The troop will get these for any girl who does not yet have them. They will be presented at the Rededication on Sunday 09/30.
Our troop does not require additional uniform pieces, though they are available for purchase. Our general rule is white shirt and khakis (usually), white shirt and denim (outside events), or Troop T-shirt & "dress for the weather" (outdoor/ active events). We also discussed wearing Girl Scout or Troop t-shirts on meeting days (Wednesdays). We will be making troop t-shirts soon! :) All Girl Scout uniforms/ patches/ pins/ books can be bought online, at the Girl Scout Shops in Griffin or Mableton (those are the closest ones), or at SCHOOL BOX (usually the most convenient option). Online and Scout Shops have more selection, and lots of extra items, but SB should have all that you need. :)
6. BROWNIES: Are you working on your Badges? Remember, some of the activities are quick and easy! :) Step by step directions are available in the Brownie's Guide to Girl Scouting. Here are a few that Abby is working on this weekend:
- Home Scientist: Step One: Be a Kitchen Chemist- Make a) Oil & Vinegar salad dressing; b) homemade ice cream (not in a machine); or c) grow rock candy.
- Inventor:
Step One: Warm Up your Inventor's Mind- a) Think of 5 new uses for a
box; b) take 5 minutes to draw as many simple things as you can that
begin with a circle; or c) fine 5 new ways to use a tool or play with a
toy.
Step Two: Find Lots of Ways to Solve the Same Problem- Think of 10 unusual ways to a) make music; b) carry your lunch; or c) water plants
7. REDEDICATION SUNDAY 09/30 @ 3pm
- Cost is $10 per family plus one item (either a bottle of salad dressing or a 2 liter of clear beverage). I'm sorry if I misspoke before, I've been corrected.
- 2 adults from each troop are needed to arrive at 1pm to help set up and decorate.
I cannot do this- I'll have Alex and Chas is working, so I would not be much help. - 3 adults from each troop are needed to stay after and help tear down and clean up.
- Volunteers are needed to help cook.
- Girls should wear white tops, khaki bottoms, and smock/sash/vest :) We'll plan to take a group photo. :)
- Please let me know if you will be attending (and how many) and bring your payment/ items on Wednesday. This will be a special event for the girls, please try to attend. :)
