  1. Snack/ Leader: Gabby
  2. ALL GIRLS should be practicing their songs (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXxB70f62LSkdO8Pg_IXZidgSlwJ2U6gr) and four girls (Abby, Amelia, Megan, Taylor) should also be practicing their lines.
  3. Tuesday night: Skate night!!  Let me know if you'd like the details.  Abby and I will be there!!  (She will skate, I will not.  LOL)
  4. Wednesday: regular meeting :)
  5. Friday: Awards night!!  5:30pm in the Shoal Creek cafeteria.  Girls should wear khaki/tan bottoms, white tops, and their sash/vest/smock.  Dinner will be catered- $10 per adult and $5 per child.  Please come ready to register for 2013-2014.  Girls who are bridging will receive a symbolic uniform (sash made of paper)- they will get their "real" one once registrations for next year are confirmed.  A computer station will be set up where registrations can be completed online.  In addition, girls will receive a prize/patch for each adult who registers with them.  GSUSA has set a goal of at least one adult per girl registered for the next year.  If you have any questions, please let me know!
  6. Saturday: Berry picking at Southern Belle.  Several people said they weren't sure.  I need to register our group- please let me know how many ASAP!  :)
I tried to upload the pictures from Saturday, but the website is giving me a hard time.  I'll get them posted ASAP.  :)

TROOP NEWS: Wk of 04/21/2013

1) Snack/ Leader this week: Rachel
This week we will continue our planning for awards night!  :)

2) Girls need to practice songs: I'm going to have CDs/DVDs ready for the meeting on Wednesday, but in the meantime, I'll post the videos on youtube (and link to them on our blog and on facebook) as I complete them.  Two down, a few more to go.  :)
3)  IF ATTENDING THIS SATURDAY'S STEM EVENT, PLEASE READ:  Remember, STEM Event this Saturday, 4/27.  Let's plan to meet at the front doors at noon.  (I figure that way we can eat ahead of time and avoid paying crazy $$ for lunch, but still be there relatively early- the event is from 10-4 and estimates 2 hours to complete all activities.)  I will have everyone's tickets to distribute at the door.  Anyone interested in carpooling, feel free to respond to all here to work it out.  I won't be able to carpool (coming from McDonough), but I'm sure it would work out for some of you!  The girls will need to wear jeans and a slim fitting top.  I'm bringing matching t-shirts for the girls to wear- going to keep them like a class set for big outings like this so no one loses theirs/ can't find it, etc.  ;o)  They can throw this oversized t-shirt on top of whatever they're wearing.  :)  If you haven't given me the money yet, please do- it was $5 adults and $10 for the girls.  :)
4) AWARDS NIGHT FRI 4/3: I've left a message for Glenn (of Glenn's BBQ) but haven't heard back.  That is our current plan.  If it doesn't work out, we'll likely end up at a local park, pot-luck style.  I will keep you posted.  I will be going by your response to the online survey as to whether or not the troop buys your girls' new uniform (if they are moving up a level)- so if you were undecided, please let me know as soon as possible.
5) OVERNIGHT TRIP: Planning on Fri 05/31 - Sun 06/02 in the Savannah area (visit the Juliette Gordon Low House, etc.).  I'll be making reservations within the next week or so, so please let me know if you plan to attend. Again, currently planning based on the numbers responded in the online survey, so if there's been a change from your answer there, give me a heads up!  :)
Any questions or concerns, just let me know!  :)

Thanks!!!

2. I realize that there is testing these next two weeks (for our 3rd grade brownies, at least). We will continue to meet as scheduled, however. Our end of the year awards are coming up and the girls have work to do in preparation!! :) Thank you for understanding.
If you have any questions, please let me know.

WEEKLY TROOP NEWS 04.06.2013

1. Snack/ Leader for this week: Sophia
2.  Last day to turn in badge work will be Wed 04/17.  I'll need time to order (or go to mableton) before our end of the year activities.  :)
3.  If you have taken any photos of our girls at girl scout events, please share- I'm putting together something special for the end of the year.  :)

4.  STEM event 04/27- I registered the following people:
                                 me & Abby
                                 Lisa & Amelia
                                 Ashley & Madilyn
                                 Paola, Megan, & Sophia
                                 Brice & Maddie
If you aren't on that list and you are interested, let me know.  Cost is $7 scout and $25 adult/ non-scout.
5.  Please respond to the link below.  I've heard back from Lisa, Ashley, Tomeika, Shauna, and Kathia.  In addition, there was one response with no name (If you responded and I didn't list you, please let me know that it was you!)  If you haven't responded yet, please take a moment to do so, so that I can plan the end of the year functions.  :)
6.  I have the Service Unit Leader meeting on Monday- I'll receive additional dates (of service unit events) and will update you accordingly.

Thank you so much!!

TROOP NEWS: Wk of 03.10.2013

  1. Snack/ Leader this week: Amelia
  2. Don't forget- this week is Girl Scout Week!!  Each girl has an agenda of how to participate each day.  I don't have it saved on this computer- but I'll email a copy tomorrow, just in case one got lost.  ;o)  One easy thing is that they should wear either their Girl Scout uniform or a Girl Scout t-shirt each day this week.  :)

  3. Don't forget, Atlanta Opera this weekend.  If you RSVP'ed to me, you have been registered.  :)  The woman I spoke to was very nice.  She said that parking is abundant and free.  That the event is actually in their rehearsal space (not in a theater), and that the girls will be sitting on the floor.  (Specifically said girls... I didn't think to ask if *WE* would be sitting on the floor as well...).  The performance will be first (Stone Soup).  After that, the audience will be divided into two groups.  One will go to Make Up and the other to Costumes.  Then they will switch.  They will also complete a craft activity and receive a patch.  Sounds pretty cool!!  Performance BEGINS at 9:30am.  Here is a link to the info, which includes the address.
    http://www.atlantaopera.org/calendar/view.aspx?id=43246671#.UT0wJldcYSY

  4. Please take a moment to view and respond to the RSVP form on this link.  It includes events for the rest of the year, and will allow us to plan accordingly.  Tomorrow night I attend the Service Unit Leaders meeting, and will get information regarding the end of year activities that the S.U. is hosting.  I will get that info to you as soon as I have it.

  5. I NEED YOUR COOKIE MONEY.  If you have not turned in all cookie money, I NEED IT TOMORROW, MONDAY MARCH 11.  I asked that it be turned in Friday.  Because we have unsold cookies, I do not currently have enough funds to cover the percentage we owe to Girl Scouts of Atlanta- and that money is due in the next two days.  This whole situation makes me ill.  PLEASE TURN IN YOUR MONEY!  [When we sell the cookies we currently have in our inventory, that money will go straight to the troop.]

TROOP NEWS: Wk of 03/03/13

1.  Snack this week: Mrs. Welch (Scheduled as Carmina)
2.  Our meeting will be spent preparing for "Girl Scout Week" which is Sunday March 10- Saturday March 16th.
3.  Please pay Mrs. Welch for the Opera if you plan to attend- $10 child & $5 adult tickets
4.  We need to hold a parent meeting as soon as possible.  Please let me know when would work for you- or alternately, what days/times would be impossible for you.
5.  At the cookie booth on Saturday, we sold out of everything except Savannah Smiles and Trefoils.   I've asked other troops if anyone wants to trade but I've not gotten any response at this point.  If you are still in need of cookies for orders that have already been paid for, please let me know- I will acquire them somehow!  LOL  [Sorry for the inconvenience- some got sold at the booth that were meant for orders- I should have been more organized!)

Thank you!  Have a great week!

TROOP NEWS: Wk of 02/25/2012

First and foremost: Happy World Thinking Day!  If you're interested in earning a World Thinking Day Award, see this link for activities (they are specific to level, Daisy or Brownie, so make sure to click the appropriate link!).  http://www.girlscouts.org/who_we_are/global/world_thinking_day/

I hope everyone is having a wonderful vacation!

Upcoming events and notes:
  1. Snack/Leader:  02/27 - Emma
                            03/06 - Abby
                            03/13 - Amelia
                            03/20 - Maddie
                            03/27 - Kharissa
  2. Cookies: Continue to sell cookies- by taking orders or taking extra cookies home.  Continue to turn in money.  If you need cookies, let me know- all it takes is a trip to the "cookie cupboard"!  :)
  3. Cookie Booths: Our 02/17 cookie booth was a success!  The girls did a great job of selling the product.  Big thanks to Amelia, Lesley, and Abby (and Abby's cousin, LOL). Next cookie booth:
Saturday 03/02/13 10am - noon at Starbucks!  (The 03/16 cookie booth has been cancelled, but we may pick up another if we can!)

  4. Girl Scout Day at the Atlanta Opera: Saturday 03/16/2013 in Atlanta (near the 75/85 split).  Event begins at 9:30.  Girl Scouts are $10 admission and Adults are $5.  (This will be a pay-for-yourself event- NOT covered by Girl Scout funds.)   Most moms got a chance to sign up for this event at last week's meeting. If you did not- please let me know if you plan to attend!  :)
Thinking ahead:
  • End of year activities - There will be a service-unit wide bridging event (where the girls move up to their next level- we'll have several moving from brownies to juniors, and one moving from daisies to brownies), but I would like to have a troop event as well to give out awards, etc.  First year we did it at a park, last year at the BBQ place- anyone have any great ideas?  Or connections?  LOL
  • Summer Daycamp - great opportunity!  I may work it (they'll have childcare for preschool age+) and Abby will attend.  Anyone want to join us?  I have the registration paperwork I can email or print a copy for you.  :)  Just let me know!
  • NEXT YEAR.  It has come to my attention that several of our girls (mine included) will be 4th graders next year.  I know there are interests in Chorus, reading bowl, etc.  Those events (when added to faculty meetings, committee meetings, etc.) leave only Friday, Saturday, and Sunday open for meetings.  It's not a big deal to miss a meeting every now and then, but I really don't want to volunteer my time on a day that I know my daughter will be missing many times.  (Love you all, but I do it for her!)  I'll say, Fridays would be my last choice.  Saturdays are busy for everyone, it seems... I was wondering how Sunday afternoon/evenings would work?  I'm open to suggestions!

TROOP NEWS: Wk of 02/12/13

Sorry the update is late this week!!  It has been crazy!

1) Snack/Leader: Abby
2) Meeting- regular time/ place.  We'll work on cookie booth sale techniques.  :)

3) If you haven't already, please plan to pick up cookies at the end of the meeting.  If you could arrive a few minutes early (say 3:50 instead of 4:00), we can go out to the parking lot and disburse cookies.  Mrs. Miller and I will be parked in the far parking lot (near the bus lanes).  Please park, meet in my room, and we'll head out to do the cookies.

4) Please continue to sell cookies, deliver cookies, collect money, and turn in money and additional orders!!  :)
5) I have documented additional orders from Madilyn, Matilda, Rachel/Gabby, and Taylor (orders that were given to me after the initial troop order was turned in).  A few others of you have mentioned that you have additional orders- PLEASE bring those tomorrow so that I can make sure to order enough extras!! :)  Luckily the cookie cupboard is right up the road, in the storage place by the sonny's & honeybaked ham place!!

6) Booth Sales:  We will need to have a sign up so I know who I can count on for the upcoming cookie booth sales.  I need AT LEAST one additional adult at each sale, the more the merrier.  Please let me know which days you &/or your girl can work!  :o)
                         Sunday 2/17 12-2pm @ Kroger on 138 & Flat Shoals.
                         Saturday 3/2 10am-12 @ Starbucks on 138 (@Hobby Lobby)
Saturday 3/16  10am-12 @ Walmart on Dogwood (housewares entrance)
**If you are interested in signing up for MORE BOOTH SALES, let me know!  We can, and I'm happy to do it- just don't want to be there by myself.  ;o)  There are plenty of slots available: They run 10am-6pm on the weekends and 3pm-7 on weekdays.  There is a signup sheet of locations to choose from.  If you are able and willing to sell at more times, let me know!!

**A blank order form was sent out in email.  :)

Otherwise, I may do something for Abby and share ideas if anyone else would like to work on a costume outside of the meeting.  Let me know what you think.

Thank you for all your help and support!!

TROOP NEWS: Wk of 01/13/13

1.  Thank you to Faith, Madilyn, Kharissa, and Abby for participating in the Cookie Rally!

2.  Snack/ Leader for the week is Matilda.

3.  Please push cookie pre-sales as much as you can this week.  I need orders, and whatever money you have collected by Wednesday.  You may continue to collect orders after Wednesday.  This is just our first opportunity to place an order.

4.  We'll be working on Cookie Sale etiquette and on our Ireland project this week.

5.  Tuesday 01/15 is spirit night at Romp n Roll!  $5 pays admission AND skate rental for anyone (not just Girl Scouts!), but GS of Atlanta gets $ to apply towards the Annual Fund.

TROOP NEWS: Wk of 01/06/13

  1. The sleepover was a great success!  Thank you to all who attended.  :)
  2. Snack/ Leader for this week is FAITH!  Be ready to share what makes your snack healthy!  :)
  3. COOKIE SALES:
    - SELL, SELL, SELL!!!
    - COLLECT MONEY!!  I will not give you cookies if you do not give me money- we don't do that "pay upon receipt" thing. Pre-order = Pre-pay.
    - TURN IN MONEY.  You can turn in money as often as you'd like.  I'll write a receipt and staple it to your collection envelope, so we can count that when totaling everything up later on.  :)
    - CHECKS: First choice payment is always cash.  Please do not accept checks unless it is someone you KNOW WELL.  What I'd prefer is that you have them write the check to YOU, and then you could write one check for all of them... if you're not comfortable with that... then maybe don't accept checks.  ;o)  (I only accept checks from family & coworkers.  Just FYI.)
    - The girls will be discussing goals and best selling practices this week.
I'm going to propose an overnight at the zoo ($60pp) as their goal- it would mean selling approximately 150 boxes of cookies each (totally doable!  Last year we had girls sell 300-500+ boxes!)  Overnight would be scheduled for May/June.  Please let me know if the concept or the dates are a problem for you.
  4. UPCOMING EVENT:  National Cookie Rally Sleepover!!  Event is THIS SATURDAY 01/12/13.  Girls have the option of attending 6pm-930pm OR they can spend the night (pick up by 9am).  Please let me know ASAP if you/your girl can attend- and if so, will it be for the evening or all night?
  5. We will begin learning about Ireland for our entry in the International Festival (Sunday, 02/10 2-5pm).  If you have any particular ties to Ireland or knowledge to share, please do!  :)
  6. Please let me know which days of the week you & your girl are NOT available for cookie booths- I will have the opportunity to sign up soon, and want to ensure that as many girls as possible can participate! :)

TROOP NEWS: Wk of 12/09/12

2) Wednesday meeting: 4pm - Ice Skating in Old Town Conyers. $7 to skate, shoe rental free.
3) Nutcracker @ Henry County Performing Arts Center Saturday 12/15 @ 7PM. Buy your own tickets, but let me know if you're going so we can meet up. :)
http://atlantafestivalballet.ticketleap.com/the-nutcracker-2012hpac/dates/Dec-15-2012_at_0700PM
4) Sleepover - Friday 12/21 4pm - Saturday 12/22 noon, my house. We will work on holiday crafts, badge requirements, and team building activities. Moms are welcome at any and all hours (girls will sleep upstairs... Downstairs, I have a pull out sofa and air mattresses if any moms want to stay the night). I will ask each girl to bring something (to contribute to a craft/snack/ or meal)- I will let you know as soon as I know how many girls will be coming. :)
5) Parent meeting. I would like to discuss events for the spring semester. I will bring activity lists and calendars to the Ice Skating event 12/12/12. TROOP NEWS: Week of 11/25/12

I hope everyone has had a great Thanksgiving and a restful break. :)
Items 4-7 require a response. Please get back to me as soon as you have the chance. Thank you!
  1. Snack & Leader for the week: Megan
  2. Only 3 more meetings this year:
    11/28 regular mtg at school
12/05 Caroling at Azalea House (meet there at 3:30; immediately following, there will be a Badge Ceremony and a parent meeting- location TBA)
    12/12 regular mtg at school
  3. I've posted the requirements for the "Computer Expert" Brownie Badge on our blog. It's on one of the tabs at the top of the page- everything is spelled out there. :o)
  4. Unfortunately there is no Girl Scout day with the Atlanta Ballet's Nutcracker this year. Northeast Atlanta has a special performance for Girl Scouts at Gwinnett Center- but it is THIS FRIDAY 11/30. Tickets are $10, but we need to get them soon! Would you like to attend? How many tickets do you need? I need the $$ ASAP.
  5. Last year, the girls did a secret Santa gift exchange. I wanted to check with you all before bringing it up to them- with a price limit of $5, would you approve?
  6. There is no Gingerbread contest this year and no "Santa Workshop" either. I'd like to do something to take the place of these events. I'm happy to host but need a date that works for the majority. Is there a Saturday or Sunday afternoon (or any day during Christmas break) that works best?
  7. I need someone to attend Cookie training with me on Monday 12/10 at 6pm. Volunteers please? So I don't have to start begging? ;o)
OK- that's the most time sensitive of it all. Please take a look at the long list of activities that I sent last week (it's also posted on the blog). We will discuss the Winter/Spring calendar at the 12/05 parent meeting, and it would be GREAT if everyone was already familiar with the options. :o)
