TROOP NEWS: Week of 10/28/12

YES, there WILL be a Girl Scout meeting this Wednesday, October 31st.
It has been brought to my attention that many other activities have been cancelled in light of it being Halloween.  I am aware of that, and understand the desire to get home early.  However, October 31st is also the birthday of Girl Scouts' Founder, Juliette Gordon Lowe.  We will be taking this opportunity to celebrate her birthday in true Girl Scout fashion.  We will sing Happy Birthday, as well as several Girl Scout songs.  We will try on our new Troop T-shirts, and take a group photo.  We will discuss our upcoming service projects and make plans for November activities.  I hope you can appreciate our mission and understand the importance of attendance this week.  <3

1.  Leader & Snack for this week: Madi Hope.  Remember to be able to explain why the snack is a healthy one, and earn Step #1 of the Cooking Snacks badge!

2.  T-shirts:  The girls tie-dyed last week and the shirts came out GREAT!  They will bring them home this week.  Now that EVERYONE will have at least one Girl Scout shirt, let's try to remember to wear Girl Scout attire for meetings and events- to make ourselves easily identifiable.  :)

3.  Shoebox project:  Each girl should be working to fill a shoebox with small gifts for a girl their age.  If filling a box on her own is going to be too much, we can partner up.  There is also a required $7 donation to accompany each box, for processing, shipping.  I have several shoe boxes, but feel free to use your own if you have one.  Boxes will be due at our 11/14 meeting.  Please visit this link for details.  WEBSITE

4.  Interfaith Hospitality Network meal project:  Our meeting on 11/14/12 will be held at the Hope's residence (on McDaniel Mill, directions will be given out at the meeting prior).  Girls will need to be picked up at school (or follow their usual dismissal procedure) and have transportation to the meeting.  Please let me know if this will be an issue.  We will be making Taco Soup to take to the church.  At this week's meeting (on 10/31) the girls will sign up for a can(s) to bring to this meeting- all of the cans together will create the soup.  There is a possibility of us staying to eat with the families at the church- we are just waiting on a few answers.  Please let me know if you/ your girl/ your family would like to attend, and if so how many- we will need to prepare the proper amount of soup!  :)  Please see this link if you'd like to know more about the program.  WEBSITE

5.  Girlapalooza is next Sunday, November 4th!  This has snuck up on me, and I assume the rest of you as well.  We only made enough through our fall fundraiser to cover ONE ticket, so if no one objects, I think we'll leave that money in the bank for now.  If you are interested in attending Girlapalooza at Six-Flags next Sunday, please let me know!!  Check out the WEBSITE for details.

6.  November-December events: We did not schedule an official November event, because we were under the assumption that the Gingerbread House Contest would be held again this year.  Well, I heard this week that it will not be happening this year- so at the moment, there is no official November event.  See events that we could attend below, and let me know if you/your girl(s) would be interested in attending any of them. :)
