TROOP NEWS: Week of 11/25/12

I hope everyone has had a great Thanksgiving and a restful break. :)
Items 4-7 require a response. Please get back to me as soon as you have the chance. Thank you!
  1. Snack & Leader for the week: Megan
  2. Only 3 more meetings this year:
    11/28 regular mtg at school
12/05 Caroling at Azalea House (meet there at 3:30; immediately following, there will be a Badge Ceremony and a parent meeting- location TBA)
    12/12 regular mtg at school
  3. I've posted the requirements for the "Computer Expert" Brownie Badge on our blog. It's on one of the tabs at the top of the page- everything is spelled out there. :o)
  4. Unfortunately there is no Girl Scout day with the Atlanta Ballet's Nutcracker this year. Northeast Atlanta has a special performance for Girl Scouts at Gwinnett Center- but it is THIS FRIDAY 11/30. Tickets are $10, but we need to get them soon! Would you like to attend? How many tickets do you need? I need the $$ ASAP.
  5. Last year, the girls did a secret Santa gift exchange. I wanted to check with you all before bringing it up to them- with a price limit of $5, would you approve?
  6. There is no Gingerbread contest this year and no "Santa Workshop" either. I'd like to do something to take the place of these events. I'm happy to host but need a date that works for the majority. Is there a Saturday or Sunday afternoon (or any day during Christmas break) that works best?
  7. I need someone to attend Cookie training with me on Monday 12/10 at 6pm. Volunteers please? So I don't have to start begging? ;o)
OK- that's the most time sensitive of it all. Please take a look at the long list of activities that I sent last week (it's also posted on the blog). We will discuss the Winter/Spring calendar at the 12/05 parent meeting, and it would be GREAT if everyone was already familiar with the options. :o)

Family Promise Service Project 11/14/2012

The girls made Taco Soup and cornbread
to share with the visitors at Rockdale Baptist Church.  <3

What do you want to do the rest of the school/ Girl Scout year?

What do you want to do the rest of this school/ Girl Scout year?

Linked here is a list of potential activities.  I'll admit, it is long.  (What can I say- we are lucky to live in Atlanta, where there are so many great opportunities!)  Please peruse this list, preferably with your Girl Scout (or maybe preview it and just present her with certain options, LOL).  I'll be asking for a consensus at the last December meeting- so we can go ahead and get a calendar put together for the rest of the year.

Thank you for your time and support.  :)

Upcoming events (for Thanksgiving week!)

Registration for the previously discussed events for this weekend have passed- BUT, here are some alternate ideas. Let me know if you'd be interested!!

  • Native American Heritage Program- THIS Sat 11/17 at Atlanta History Center. Great place to visit- and this program looks AWESOME! http://www.atlantahistorycenter.com/cms/Programs+%26+Festivals+/509.html (Normal price is adult $16.50/ kid $11, but last time we were able to get the field trip price of $7 each- I would just have to call ASAP!)
  • Noah's Ark Animal Rescue- In Locust Grove, near Tanger Outlet- FREE. :) Lots of fun.
  • Hiking/walking somewhere?
  • Badge workshop at my house?

Let me know if you're interested in any of these activities and what days are best (other than the 11/17 event)!! :) :) :)

TROOP NEWS: Week of 11/11/12

1. Snack & Leader for this week: Sophia

2. Meeting this week will be held at the Hope's home and will begin at 3:30.  We will spend about 2 hours prepping and cooking, and will start packing up to head to the church at about 5:30.  If you would like to have dinner at the church with us, please let me know.  Either way, parents should be there by 5:30- to pick up or transport.  :)  The Hopes live on McDaniel Mill Rd, almost at the corner with Smyrna  Rd.  (There is one house between theirs and the corner.)  The address is in the girls' notebooks.

**I do not have the sign-up sheet with me (I left it on my desk)- I'll send out a reminder of what each girl needs to bring to the meeting, on Monday.  I'll include an update on upcoming events as well (also on my desk at work).  :)  Thank you!!

TROOP NEWS: Week of 11/04/12

 1.  Leader & Snack for this week: Kharissa.  Remember to be able to explain why the snack is a healthy one, and earn Step #1 of the Cooking Snacks badge!

2.  T-shirts:  Please try to wear Girl Scout attire on meeting days.  You DON'T need your sash/vest/smock- t-shirt is fine. :)

3.  Shoebox project:  Each girl should be working to fill a shoebox with small gifts for a girl their age.  If filling a box on her own is going to be too much, we can partner up.  There is also a required $7 donation to accompany each box, for processing, shipping.  I have several shoe boxes, but feel free to use your own if you have one.  Boxes will be due at our 11/14 meeting.  Please visit this link for details.  WEBSITE

4.  Interfaith Hospitality Network meal project:  Our meeting on 11/14/12 will be held at the Hope's residence (on McDaniel Mill, directions will be given out at the meeting prior).  Girls will need to be picked up at school (or follow their usual dismissal procedure) and have transportation to the meeting.  Please let me know if this will be an issue.  We will be making Taco Soup to take to the church.  At this week's meeting (on 10/31) the girls will sign up for a can(s) to bring to this meeting- all of the cans together will create the soup.  There is a possibility of us staying to eat with the families at the church- we are just waiting on a few answers.  Please let me know if you/ your girl/ your family would like to attend, and if so how many- we will need to prepare the proper amount of soup!  :)  Please see this link if you'd like to know more about the program.  WEBSITE

Each girl will need to bring cans  (11/14) to contribute to the soup.
Please let me know which box you would like to sign up for.
